What is gingivitis / periodontitis?
When plaque is allowed to accumulate, the bacteria in the plaque produces toxins which irritate the gum and result in gum inflammation, also known as gingivitis. The gum becomes swollen, inflamed and easily bleeds while brushing. If the condition is left untreated, bacteria will continue to multiply and secrete toxins, progressively destroying the gum tissue and leading to a more severe form of gum disease known as periodontitis and causing permanent damage. Visit a dentist as soon as possible to get a proper diagnosis.
